In 2008, AJW Engineering proposed a scheme consisting of multi-type shoring systems to prevent collapse of the Humber College – Lakeshore Campus structure during its removal of floor slabs and load bearing walls while working with the general contractor responsible for the rehabilitation. AJW Engineering was retained to also review the demolition plan and underpinning design at the building. The primary challenge on this project was to develop a temporary structural lateral bracing system that would support the structure while its internal bracing had been removed. AJW Engineering proposed an external bracing method made up of HSS steel members to maintain the structural integrity of the building. While working with our client, we adapted their practical ideas and turned it into a working design. AJW Engineering works primarily with General Contractors to assist them with all their restoration and construction engineering needs in all sectors of the construction industry.
